Venison Curry
A local specialty from Lake Motosu and Lake Shoji
About Venison Curry
Venison Curry (鹿カレー, Shika curry) is a beloved specialty of the Lake Motosu and Lake Shoji area.
Venison offers a lighter, leaner taste compared to beef, while being low in calories and rich in protein—a wholesome choice for any meal. This dish was created in Fujikawaguchiko Town as a sustainable solution to address agricultural damage caused by wild deer. In particular, large-scale harm to pasturelands in the Fujigane district, known for its expansive natural landscapes, prompted efforts to repurpose the deer population as a valuable local resource. The result is this unique and delicious dish that represents the region’s ingenuity.
