Shishi Nabe
A heartwarming traditional hot pot with wild boar from Nara
About Shishi Nabe
Shishi Nabe (しし鍋) is a traditional hot pot dish made with wild boar meat from the mountainous regions of Nara. It is also known as "shishi-jiru" in some areas.
To eliminate any gaminess, the dish is typically seasoned with ginger, powdered Japanese pepper, and a generous amount of aromatic vegetables such as burdock root, green onions, mizuna, and chrysanthemum leaves. The base is a miso-flavored broth, which provides a rich, warming taste that will heat you right to the core.
