About Hiroshima Tsukemen
Hiroshima Tsukemen (広島つけ麺) traces its roots back to 1954 when Mr. Shingu, inspired by flavors from China, opened a Chinese restaurant called Shinkae-en in Hiroshima City. At the time, a chilled noodle dish known as "Reimen" served at the restaurant became quite popular.
The distinctive "Reimen" featured a spicy, tangy dipping sauce made with chili powder, sesame oil, and vinegar, paired with cold noodles to create a refreshing yet invigorating flavor. This dish is considered the prototype of today's Hiroshima Tsukemen.
By the mid-1980s, the dish was officially named "Tsukemen," and specialty shops began to emerge. In the early 2000s, the dish gained nationwide recognition thanks to a celebrity’s endorsement, igniting the Hiroshima Tsukemen boom across Japan.
