Shirakami Abalone
Shirakami Abalone nurtured in Happo Town, Akita Prefecture
Shirakami Abalone introduction
Shirakami Abalone (白神あわび, Shirakami awabi) is cultivated in Happo Town, Akita Prefecture, which lies within the vast Shirakami Sanchi, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. The pristine waters that flow from this lush natural area into the Japan Sea are part of the Hachimori Iwadate Prefectural Natural Park. Within this idyllic environment, a repurposed school building has been transformed into a unique aquaculture facility where Shirakami Abalone is raised. Grown in the nutrient-rich seawater of the Japan Sea, these abalones are known for their tender texture and a rich, flavorful taste, including their deliciously edible liver. Every bite is a true taste of nature’s bounty.
