Cod soup introduction

Asahi is a place rich in nature where the Northern Alps and the jade coast spread out, and it is the town where the traditional soup called “cod soup” originated. A long time ago, the amount of cod caught was abundant, so fishermen's wives collected driftwood, boiled large pots, added miso paste and cod, and simmered to make it. The decisive factor for the deliciousness of this dish is cutting a whole cod into pieces and briskly simmering it using the meat, head, liver, milt, and persimmons. Currently, it can be eaten all year round as a specialty dish of the town, and it is eaten on a daily basis because it can be easily prepared at home. In addition to being able to enjoy it at cafeterias, inns, drive-ins, etc. in the town, cod soup is also offered to supplement salt at beaches in the summer. Every year in October, the “Jade Coast Cod Soup Festival” is held, and locals and tourists gather. There is also a cod soup making experience taught by a mother living in a fishing village.
