Sorakitamochi
“Here it is!” The name comes from being made so soonSorakitamochi introduction
“Sorakitamochi” is a local confectionary that has long been loved by Himeshima, a remote island floating at the western tip of the Seto Inland Sea. Himeshima is about 20 minutes by ferry from Imi Port in Kunisaki City (Kunisaki City). It is said that Mejima, which was born by Izanagi Mikoto (Izanagi no Mikoto) and Izanami no Mikoto (Izanami no Mikoto), is one of the myths recorded in the Kojiki. The sea near Himeshima, which overlooks Suonada (Suonada), is a good fishing ground, and abundant seafood such as sea bream, octopus, prawns, and perch are landed. In Himeshima, which is surrounded by the ocean, rice did not grow, and flour and sweet potatoes were often made instead. It can be said that it is an affordable snack made in such an environment. “Sorakitamochi,” which has been popular in Himeshima Village, is made by crushing softly boiled sweet potatoes, sprinkling half of them with flour, and kneading over a fire to make the skin. The remaining sweet potatoes are wrapped with sugar added to the sauce. Since steaming is not required, cooking time can be shortened. Therefore, even if there is a sudden visitor, they say, “It's gone!” Since it was made so quickly, it is said that it was named “Sorakitamochi.” In the past, sweet potatoes were boiled in hot water in any house, which is one of the reasons why they can be made quickly.
