Sorakitamochi
“SORORA!” a name from making it so soonSorakitamochi introduction
Sorakitamochi is a local confectionery that has been popular since ancient times in Himeshima, a remote island located on the western edge of the Seto Inland Sea. Himejima is about 20 minutes by ferry from the Port of Imi in Kunisaki City. In one of the myths contained in the Kojiki (the Records of Ancient Matters), it is said that Izima, where Izanagi no Mikoto (Izanagi no Mikoto) and Izanami no Mikoto were born, is said to be Himeshima. The sea near Himeshima, which faces Suonada, is a good fishing ground, and an abundance of seafood such as Thailand, octopus, shrimps, and sea bass are caught. In Himeshima, surrounded by the sea, rice did not grow, but flour and pickled potatoes were often made instead. It can be called an affordable snack made in such an environment. Sorakitamochi, which has been popular in Himeshima-mura, crush the soft boiled sweet potato, half of which is sprinkled with flour, put on fire and kneaded into skin. The remaining sweet potatoes are added to sugar and then wrapped. No steaming work is required, so cooking time can be reduced. Therefore, even if there are sudden visitors, “distract!” It is said that it became the name “sora kitamochi” because it makes it so quickly. In the old days, sweet potatoes were kept in hot water in any house is also one of the reasons for making them quickly.
