Shiokatsuo udon introduction

“Shiokatsuo udon” is a flavorful gourmet dish made by sprinkling the traditional preserved food “shiokatsuo” from the Nishiizu region and sprinkled on udon as a topping, making it perfect for when you have no appetite or after drinking alcohol. You can enjoy it at over 30 local shops, and some use onsen eggs as toppings. “Shiokatsuo” is made at Tago Port in Nishiizu, where an abundance of high-quality skipjack tuna is landed, and dried by soaking the whole skipjack tuna in salt. It has been popular as a preserved food since ancient times, and is also considered a lucky charm, such as offering it to kamidana. “Nishiizu Shiokatsuo Udon” was proposed by the “Nishiizu Shio Katsuo Study Group” in 2009, and is highly popular locally.
